Meralco customers may see lower electricity bills this September as declining generation charges are expected to offset other cost adjustments.
Spokesman Joe Zaldarriaga said the peso’s recent strengthening against the dollar reduced costs from suppliers, whose charges are mostly dollar-denominated.
This decline is projected to balance the Energy Regulatory Commission’s approval of San Miguel Global Power units’ P5.1-billion cost recovery from Meralco over six months.
Despite the additional charges, Zaldarriaga expressed optimism that generation charge reductions will pull down overall rates. Meralco is set to announce the official rate adjustment today.
