MAYOR OF LAUA-AN WORRIES OVER HIGH TB INFECTION RATES

The mayor of Laua-an has expressed concern over a rise in tuberculosis (TB) cases in the municipality.

In 2023, 224 cases were diagnosed and 175 patients received treatment, with 46 new cases reported in the first quarter of 2024.

Health officials attribute the high detection rate to active case-finding efforts and widespread use of mobile X-rays, while Mayor Aser Baladjay has directed front-liners to wear facemasks to curb the spread.

Most cases have been reported in Barangays Jaguiquican and Jinalinan.

The province of Antique has also seen a rise in TB cases, urging patients to seek treatment early to prevent further transmission.
