President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will meet with US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin II today to discuss strengthening US-Philippine alliances amid South China Sea tensions.
This marks Austin’s fourth visit to Manila, following a July meeting where the US pledged over $600 million in military aid and increased funding for EDCA sites.
President Joe Biden’s budget request includes $128 million for EDCA infrastructure projects in the Philippines.
Marcos emphasized the enduring nature of the US-Philippine treaty partnership regardless of changes in US leadership.
After Manila, Austin will visit Laos and Fiji for bilateral and multilateral engagements.
