MARCOS PICKS NEW PNP CHIEF, EYES MODERNIZED POLICE LAW

President Marcos has chosen a successor to outgoing PNP chief Gen. Rommel Marbil, who is set to retire on June 7, with DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla confirming the next leader is a police general with a solid track record and long-term vision.

Remulla emphasized the need for consistent leadership and announced plans to propose a new PNP Reform Law to modernize outdated policies.

He also revealed that a centralized 911 emergency system will launch in July, integrating nationwide police, fire, and medical response, with safeguards against prank calls.

Additional security reforms include a central criminal database and redeployment of over 21,000 police officers in Metro Manila to improve public safety perception.

Meanwhile, Marbil defended the PNP against criticism over a recent BGC robbery, stressing that private areas like BGC have limited police presence and rely on their security.
