President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered the expedited release of the P10,000 cash gift for qualified senior citizens under the Expanded Centenarians Act.
Palace press officer Claire Castro said the directive came after eight senior citizens from Quezon City filed anti-red tape complaints against the National Commission for Senior Citizens over delays in receiving their benefits.
The senior citizens, aged 80 to 85, expressed concern that they might die without receiving the cash incentives, similar to some of their friends who passed away while waiting.
The Anti-Red Tape Authority endorsed the complaints to the NCSC’s Committee on Anti-Red Tape, with a clarificatory meeting set to include government agencies, local officials and the complainants.
Under Republic Act 11982, Filipinos who reach ages 80, 85, 90 and 95 are entitled to P10,000, while those who reach 100 receive P100,000.
