Vice President Sara Duterte has no plans to resign as she faces an impeachment trial before the Senate over allegations involving the misuse of confidential funds, unexplained wealth, bribery, and grave threats.
Defense spokesperson Michael Poa said Wednesday that resignation is not being discussed between Duterte and her legal team.
Poa acknowledged that her lawyers had considered resignation as an option but said Duterte is not currently considering stepping down, citing the 32 million people who voted for her.
The impeachment trial entered its 19th day, with prosecutors presenting witnesses on the first article involving the alleged misuse of P612.5 million in confidential funds from the Office of the Vice President and Department of Education.
If convicted, Duterte could be removed from office and permanently barred from holding public office.
