Senior citizen advocate and lawyer Romulo Macalintal urged the Supreme Court to clarify its ruling prohibiting senior citizens from combining their 20% discount with promotional prices.
He warned that businesses might misuse the decision by labeling regular transactions as promotions to deny senior discounts.
Macalintal said promotional campaigns must secure prior approval from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) before establishments can invoke the rule against double discounts.
He added that senior citizens should still receive their 20% discount on unauthorized promotional prices.
Macalintal also urged the court to clarify that senior citizens remain entitled to the 12% value-added tax exemption on hotel services.
