President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. reaffirmed his commitment to provide affordable and decent homes for Filipino families amid the country’s growing housing backlog during the National Housing Expo in Pasay City.
This year, over 57,000 Pag-IBIG Fund members received assistance for homeownership or house rehabilitation, while P75 billion in cash loans benefited about 3 million members for immediate financial needs.
The government also began issuing notices of approval for beneficiaries to claim ownership of land under Presidential Proclamations in areas including Los Baños, Lucena City, Iloilo City, and Caloocan City.
Under Marcos’ Expanded Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino (4PH) Program, which aims to build one million housing units annually until 2028, more Filipinos—including 4Ps beneficiaries—are gaining access to affordable housing.
Despite these efforts, UN-Habitat reports that the national housing need could rise to 10 million by 2028 and 22 million by 2040, with over 4 million people in the National Capital Region living in poor housing conditions exacerbated by the pandemic and disasters.
