President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has signed Republic Act 12145, which transforms the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) into the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DepDev).
The new department will serve as the government’s main policy and planning body for national economic development, tasked with providing evidence-based analyses and aligning long-term strategies with budgeting processes.
DepDev will also focus on strengthening the planning capacities of national and local agencies and will conduct consultations with various sectors to ensure inclusive policymaking.
The former NEDA board will now be known as the Economy and Development Council (ED Council), chaired by the President and responsible for directing national economic policies.
The law takes effect 15 days after its publication in the Official Gazette or a major newspaper.
