President Marcos has appointed Francis Saturnino Juan as the new chairman of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), along with two new commissioners, Amante Liberato and Paris Real, filling vacancies left by recent resignations and retirements.
These appointments prevent the ERC from losing its quorum, which is essential for its decision-making under the Electric Power Industry Reform Act.
Juan, former general counsel of the ERC, is recognized for his work on consumer protection, renewable energy, and market transparency.
Liberato and Real bring extensive experience in finance, legal reform, and regulatory proceedings, which are expected to strengthen the commission’s operations.
The appointments have been welcomed by power industry leaders and energy groups, who see them as a positive step toward maintaining stability, transparency, and consumer protection in the sector.
