The Comelec Political Finance and Affairs Division (PFAD) found “inconsistencies” between Sen. Rodante Marcoleta’s statements in a TV interview and his verified position paper regarding campaign donations he received.
PFAD lawyer Victoria Besinio testified before the Sandiganbayan that Marcoleta initially described the funds as campaign donations but later said they were part of his personal funds and were not intended to influence the 2025 elections.
Besinio clarified that PFAD made no categorical finding on the nature of the funds.
Marcoleta is facing two counts of violating Presidential Decree No. 46 over a P75-million donation he received from three donors while serving as a party-list representative.
The Comelec earlier cleared him of an alleged election code violation after terminating its investigation into his failure to disclose the contributions and donors.
