MARCOLETA PLEADS NOT GUILTY TO PLUNDER, GIFT LAW OFFENSE

Senator Rodante Marcoleta pleaded not guilty to plunder and charges of violating the law prohibiting public officials from receiving gifts during his arraignment before the Sandiganbayan.

His co-accused, Joseph Espiritu, also entered a not guilty plea, while other co-accused had done so earlier.

Prosecutors allege that Marcoleta accepted P75 million in undeclared campaign contributions from three donors while serving as a party-list lawmaker.

The funds were allegedly omitted from his financial and election disclosures.

Marcoleta remains detained as the anti-graft court proceeds with the case.
