MAGUINDANAO DEL SUR UNDER STATE OF CALAMITY AS FLOODS DISPLACE 307,000

Maguindanao del Sur was placed under a state of calamity after massive flooding displaced over 307,000 residents across several towns, Gov. Datu Ali Midtimbang announced Monday.

At least 250 patients from the Buluan District Hospital were evacuated to the provincial capitol as floodwaters submerged the compound, prompting the suspension of classes in Datu Piang, Mangudadatu, and Pagalungan.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office reported that heavily affected areas include Pagalungan, Datu Montawal, and Sultan sa Barongis, among others.

Bangsamoro Interim Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua visited the displaced patients and assured government aid, distributing rice and relief items during his inspection.

Authorities also safeguarded hospital equipment and documents while continuing to deliver assistance to both home-based victims and those evacuated to safer grounds.
