Department of Transportation Secretary Giovanni Z. Lopez confirmed allegations that at least two DOTr officials in Central Visayas were collecting P8 million in monthly payola.
Lopez discovered the illegal activities during a recent visit to Cebu and vowed to pursue everyone involved.
At least one other DOTr official is believed to have knowledge of the scheme, prompting Lopez to verify if other LTO local personnel were also ordered to collect payola.
LTO chief Assistant Secretary Makus Lacanilao ordered a full investigation, activating a specialized team to examine all operations of LTO Region 7, including financial and licensing processes.
Lacanilao assured the public that the investigation will be impartial and thorough, with anyone found guilty of corruption facing administrative and legal consequences.
