The Liberal Party (LP) rejected former presidential spokesman Harry Roque’s claim that Vice President Sara Duterte could lead the opposition after resigning from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s Cabinet.
The LP emphasized that true opposition is based on accountability, transparency, and genuine care for the people, qualities they argue Duterte lacks.
Roque suggested Duterte’s resignation from her Cabinet posts positioned her as the opposition leader, while LP labeled the UniTeam alliance between Marcos and Duterte during the 2022 elections as merely a façade.
LP President Edcel Lagman reiterated that the party remains the “ideological and conscientious” opposition.
Former Duterte spokesman Salvador Panelo noted her resignation signifies a loss for the Marcos administration and foreshadows shifts in political alliances.
