Former Vice President and Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo has endorsed Supreme Court Senior Associate Justice Marvic Leonen as the next chief justice of the Supreme Court.
In a letter to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Robredo cited Leonen’s experience, independence, integrity, and nearly 14 years of service on the High Tribunal.
She also highlighted his work as a public interest lawyer, former UP College of Law dean, and peace negotiator with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.
Leonen is set to serve as acting chief justice after Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo retires on November 6.
Leonen is among five Supreme Court justices invited by the Judicial and Bar Council to apply for the chief justice post.
