Leila Barros was warmly welcomed back to the Philippines on September 26, nearly 21 years after her last visit as a volleyball star.
The former Brazilian volleyball legend and current senator expressed nostalgia as she recalled the “Leila Mania” era when she helped boost volleyball’s popularity in the country.
Barros praised the growth of sports in both the Philippines and Brazil and highlighted her work supporting youth and women’s development through sports initiatives.
She thanked Filipino fans for their enduring support and took time to meet them during the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship.
Approaching her 54th birthday, Barros reflected on how sports shaped her life and continue to inspire her advocacy work.
