Two lawmakers from the House quad-committee have warned former Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque of potential “stiffer penalties” for any future contemptuous actions, such as lying to the panel.
This follows Roque’s recent citation for contempt and 24-hour detention for misleading the committee about his absence from an August 16 hearing in Porac, Pampanga.
Surigao del Norte 2nd District Rep. Ace Barbers expressed skepticism about Roque’s claim of an “honest mistake,” leading to the committee’s unanimous decision to reject his explanation.
Sta. Rosa City Rep. Dan Fernandez noted that Roque, as a former colleague, could have communicated his reasons directly, highlighting the importance of honesty from all resource persons.
The committee emphasized that false excuses will not be tolerated, stressing the need for cooperation due to the national security implications of their investigation.
