LEGARDA ENGAGES SINGAPORE DEPUTY PM ON CLIMATE ACTION AND ENERGY COOPERATION

Senator Loren Legarda met with Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong during her Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellowship to discuss cooperation on climate resilience, digital integration, and regional energy.

She highlighted the Philippines’ vulnerability to climate change and praised Singapore’s long-term resilience plans as a model for proactive action.

Legarda emphasized nature-based solutions like reforestation and mangrove rehabilitation as cost-effective ways to generate carbon credit investments.

The discussion also covered advancing the digital economy through cross-border payments and diversifying renewable energy to strengthen the Philippines’ energy security. 

Legarda pledged to push these issues with ASEAN ahead of the Philippines’ 2026 chairmanship, reinforcing the country’s role as a proactive regional partner.
