Senator Loren Legarda has praised the progress of the 2003 Anti-Child Labor Law, officially known as Republic Act 9231, in reducing the number of Filipino children engaged in hazardous work.
She emphasized that the law has significantly protected children from dangerous labor and provided them with better opportunities.
However, Legarda acknowledged that challenges remain, particularly in addressing the root causes of child labor, such as poverty and limited access to education.
The law prohibits the worst forms of child labor, regulates working hours for minors, ensures access to education and skills training, and imposes penalties on employers who violate child labor laws.
Legarda reiterated the importance of continuing efforts to eliminate child labor and uphold children’s rights.
