Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro met with Thai Foreign Affairs Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow on Jan. 5, marking one of the first ASEAN meetings since the Philippines assumed the 2026 chairship.
They discussed the Philippines’ priorities for ASEAN this year, including promoting the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) and exploring its applications in the silver economy and maritime cooperation.
Lazaro emphasized the importance of a united ASEAN in fostering regional peace, security, and prosperity.
The two officials also held candid talks on pressing regional and international issues, including the situation in Myanmar and the Thailand-Cambodia border.
The meeting reflects the Philippines’ commitment to active engagement with ASEAN partners under its chairmanship.
