LARGEST-EVER MILITARY DRILLS IN PH AIMED AT TACKLING EXTERNAL THREATS

The Philippine Army is gearing up for its most extensive drills yet, aligning with a strategic shift towards external defense operations.

Army Chief Lt. Gen. Roy Galido announced the inaugural Army-wide Combined Arms Training Exercise (Catex) “Katihan” set for March 11 at Camp O’Donnell in Capas, Tarlac.

Expected to involve 4,000 to 5,000 troops from units in Visayas and Mindanao, the exercise aims to assess capabilities and identify potential gaps.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is slated to attend the opening ceremony, highlighting the significance of the event. Additionally, the 39th joint military drills between the Philippines and the United States in April are anticipated to be the largest to date, though details remain forthcoming.

Despite the focus on external threats, the Philippine military continues to address domestic challenges, including communist insurgency nationwide and jihadist activities primarily in Mindanao.

As preparations for comprehensive defense measures progress, the Army remains vigilant in safeguarding national security interests.
