Businessman and congressional candidate Eugiene Salom was arrested in Calamba, Laguna, on Monday for allegedly issuing checks without sufficient funds.
Police apprehended Salom outside the Hall of Justice, where he was attending a court hearing for other cases.
His arrest was based on a warrant issued by Judge Krisandra Ann del Mundo Malalauan for violating Batas Pambansa 22 (Anti-Bouncing Check Law).
Salom’s lawyer posted a P120,000 bail for his temporary release.
Salom, who is leading in surveys for Calamba’s lone district seat, claims the arrest is politically motivated.
He is running under the Akay National Political Party.
