The Commission on Elections (Comelec) issued show cause orders (SCOs) to six mayoral candidates, including Manila’s Honey Lacuna, and 11 other local aspirants for alleged election violations, including vote-buying and misuse of government resources.
The Task Force Kontra Bigay, led by Teopisto Elnas Jr., identified the candidates facing accusations, including other mayoral bets and candidates for vice mayor, congressional, and gubernatorial positions.
Among those directed to explain are former Rep. Romero Quimbo, Zarah Rose Lara, Danilo Fernandez, and several local council aspirants.
The Comelec has given the accused three days to respond via email to avoid the filing of disqualification or election offense cases.
Lacuna, who confirmed her intent to comply with the order, emphasized her belief in due process and her readiness to disprove the allegations.
