ICC PURSUES JUSTICE FOR VICTIMS OF PHILIPPINE DRUG WAR

The International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor Karim Khan is preparing for the trial phase in the investigation of alleged crimes against humanity linked to the Philippines’ drug war.

Khan emphasized the importance of giving voice to the victims and ensuring accountability for reported abuses.

Despite the Philippines’ withdrawal from the ICC in 2019, the court asserts jurisdiction over crimes committed while the country was still a member.

The Philippine government has repeatedly questioned the ICC’s authority, maintaining that its legal system can address the allegations.

The trial preparations mark a critical step in seeking justice for the victims of the controversial anti-drug campaign.
