HOUSE OFFICIALS ADVOCATE COMBINED INVESTIGATION INTO POGOS AND DRUG VIOLATIONS

House officials have supported proposals for joint investigations into the illegal activities of Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs), illegal drug presence, and alleged human rights violations from the previous administration’s drug war.

Senior Deputy Speaker Aurelio Gonzales Jr. emphasized the need for a unified approach to these complex issues in a Monday privilege speech.

He cited ongoing investigations by the House Committees on Dangerous Drugs, Public Order and Safety, and Human Rights, which have uncovered interconnected issues involving drug warehouses, POGOs, and extrajudicial killings.

House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez confirmed that a resolution for joint hearings is being prepared.

The joint probe aims to address overlapping concerns more effectively, with discussions also including suggestions to involve the Committee on Public Accounts.
