The House of Representatives has approved on second reading House Bill 10841, aimed at strengthening the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
The bill proposes establishing a PCG Modernization Trust Fund to support upgrades and increasing the minimum manning level from one to three personnel per kilometer of coastline.
It also includes aligning the PCG ranks, pay, and benefits with those of the Armed Forces and the Philippine National Police.
Additionally, the bill seeks to create the Office of Coast Guard Attaché and the Coast Guard Internal Affairs Service to ensure accountability.
The measure is designed to enhance maritime safety, security, and environmental protection.
