Senator Risa Hontiveros expressed concern after 13 Chinese nationals were found onboard a dredging ship off the coast of Bataan.
The senator questioned the legality of their presence and called for an investigation into the ship’s activities, particularly regarding possible violations of maritime and immigration laws.
Hontiveros emphasized the need to protect Philippine waters from unauthorized activities that could harm the environment or compromise national security.
She also urged authorities to strengthen maritime monitoring and enforcement measures to prevent similar incidents.
The Bureau of Immigration and other agencies have been tapped to verify the ship’s purpose and ensure compliance with the law.
