Sen. Risa Hontiveros has criticized the Commission on Elections (Comelec) after it confirmed that the fingerprints of Alice Guo matched those of Chinese national Guo Hua Ping, highlighting systemic failures in Philippine regulations.
Hontiveros, who was not surprised by the revelation, noted that the National Bureau of Investigation had previously established that Guo and Hua Ping were the same person.
She condemned the fact that a Chinese national could become a mayor in the Philippines and pointed out deficiencies in various institutional systems.
Hontiveros urged Guo to comply with the Senate’s arrest order, issued after she failed to attend a hearing on serious allegations including human trafficking and illegal detention.
The Senate is investigating Guo’s alleged connections to the illegal gaming firm Zun Yuan Technology Inc. and her citizenship status.
