The Department of Health (DOH) reported a sharp rise in hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) cases, with 7,598 infections recorded from Jan. 1 to Feb. 22—three times higher than last year’s 2,665 cases.
Over half of the cases were reported in Central Luzon, MIMAROPA, Metro Manila, and the Cordillera region, with children under nine being the most affected.
Health Secretary Ted Herbosa reassured the public that most cases are mild but emphasized that HFMD spreads quickly.
The DOH urged those with symptoms to stay home and seek medical attention at health centers.
Officials continue monitoring the situation, advising preventive measures to curb further transmission.
