HERGIE BACYADAN EARNS OLYMPIC QUALIFICATION WITH IMPRESSIVE WIN

Hergie Bacyadan secured a spot in the Paris Olympics by defeating Venezuela’s Maryelis Yriza in the women’s 75kg quarterfinals at the second World Qualification Tournament in Bangkok on June 2. 

Bacyadan achieved a unanimous decision win with scores of 30-26, 30-26, 30-26, 29-27, and 29-27. She becomes the fifth Filipino boxer to qualify for the Paris Games. 

Bacyadan edged out the first round with the approval of three judges and dominated the second round with a powerful right uppercut, leading to a standing eight count. 

This victory ensures Bacyadan one of the four Olympic quotas available.
