Bacolod City confirmed its first case of mpox (monkeypox), a viral disease transmitted through close contact, Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez announced on Sunday.
The patient is in stable condition, isolated, and receiving appropriate care as the City Health Office works with the Department of Health and local hospitals for contact tracing and containment.
Authorities stressed that mpox is manageable and urged the public to follow hygiene protocols, avoid misinformation, and stay informed through official sources.
Border controls and temperature checks are being implemented at local entry points, while neighboring Iloilo City also reported cases.
The public was advised to remain calm and vigilant, especially those with higher health risks, as there is no specific antiviral treatment for mpox currently available.
