France’s Zaccharie Risacher was chosen by the Atlanta Hawks as the first overall pick in the NBA Draft, following fellow Frenchman Victor Wembanyama’s top selection last year.
Risacher, a 19-year-old forward who led JL Bourg to the EuroCup final, expressed his excitement and gratitude for the milestone.
The Washington Wizards selected another Frenchman, 19-year-old center Alexandre Sarr, as the second overall pick, marking only the third time in NBA history that the top two picks lacked US college experience.
The Houston Rockets chose University of Kentucky guard Reed Sheppard with the third pick, while San Antonio picked Stephon Castle of Connecticut as the fourth.
The second round of the draft, where Bronny James, son of LeBron James, might be selected, is set for Thursday (Friday in Manila).
