Dylan Harper, son of NBA legend Ron Harper and his Filipino wife Maria, was selected second overall by the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Draft, making him the second player of Filipino descent taken at that spot.
Harper expressed pride in representing his Filipino roots and family heritage as he embarks on his NBA career.
He joins Jalen Green as one of only two Filipino-Americans drafted second overall, and is among the few Filipino-descended players to be picked in the first round.
Harper will team up with 2024 Rookie of the Year Victor Wembanyama as the Spurs aim to return to contention after rebuilding.
The draft also saw notable picks like South Sudanese Khaman Maluach at 10th by the Phoenix Suns and Chinese center Yang Hansen, surprisingly taken at 16th by the Portland Trail Blazers.
