The Philippines is set to host the first-ever FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup from Nov. 21 to Dec. 7, with matches staged at PhilSports Arena in Pasig and Victorias Coliseum in Negros Occidental.
Philippine Football Federation (PFF) president John Gutierrez vowed that the Filipina5 will compete fiercely against powerhouse teams like Spain, Brazil, and Japan, while also showcasing the country’s capability to host a world-class tournament.
The Local Organizing Committee confirmed that preparations, including infrastructure upgrades and the Sept. 15 tournament draw, are on track to meet FIFA standards.
The Filipina5, led by co-captains Inday Tolentino and Isabella Flanigan under Spanish coach Rafa Merino, will finalize a 14-woman roster after training camps in Japan and possibly Europe.
Gutierrez said the goal is not just participation but making an impact, stressing that the World Cup is also a step toward strengthening grassroots women’s football in the country.
