Finance Secretary Frederick Go said the government has approved a recommendation to suspend excise taxes on LPG and kerosene, with the measure expected to reach the Office of the President within days.
The tax relief could be announced next week to help vulnerable households cope with high fuel prices.
The move follows Dubai crude prices averaging $99.41 per barrel from Aug. 13 to Sept. 11, above the government’s $80 threshold.
Go said the government is not considering suspending excise taxes on gasoline and diesel due to the potential P12-billion monthly revenue loss.
The ADB said rising fuel prices linked to the Middle East conflict may have contributed to the decision to ease taxes on select fuel products.
