A House of Representatives panel is set to invite former President Rodrigo Duterte’s economic adviser to a hearing regarding the 2023 seizure of illegal drugs valued at P3 billion in Mexico, Pampanga.
Michael Yang, a close associate of Duterte, will be summoned by the House committee on dangerous drugs amid suspicions of his involvement in drug trafficking.
Yang’s connections to the Pharmally Pharmaceutical scandal and his alleged role in brokering an P8-billion deal for COVID-19 medical supplies procurement with the government have also surfaced.
The investigation revealed links between Yang’s interpreter, Lincoln Ong, and Empire 999, the company owning the Pampanga warehouse where the illegal drugs were stored.
The probe expands beyond a simple drug bust to a national security concern, uncovering complex company structures designed to evade detection and liability.
