ESCUDERO URGES OFWS TO OBEY HOST COUNTRY LAWS AFTER QATAR ARRESTS

Senate President Francis Escudero reminded overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to follow the laws of their host countries to avoid legal trouble.

His statement came after the Philippine embassy in Doha secured the release of one of 20 Filipinos detained in Qatar for holding an unauthorized political rally.

Escudero emphasized that while securing their release is a priority, the incident should serve as a lesson.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) were praised for their swift action, which led to the release of four individuals, including three minors.

Philippine authorities continue efforts to secure the release of the remaining detainees.
