Senate President Francis Escudero assured Vice President Sara Duterte would receive fair treatment in her impeachment trial, expected to begin after Congress resumes on June 2.
He ruled out calling a special session to expedite proceedings, emphasizing adherence to law and due process.
Meanwhile, 43 out of 60 Mindanao lawmakers signed the impeachment complaint, signaling a decline in Duterte’s regional political support.
Rep. Robert Ace Barbers dismissed claims of coercion, highlighting that over 215 lawmakers backed the move, making it one of the most strongly supported impeachment cases in Philippine history.
With widespread bipartisan support, he stressed that the process is unstoppable and rooted in upholding the rule of law.
