Senate President Francis Escudero has urged a thorough review of Philippine Inland Gaming Operators (PIGOs), warning that they pose similar social risks as the now-banned Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs).
He questioned whether allowing PIGOs, which primarily cater to Filipinos, contradicts the government’s stance against gambling’s harmful effects.
Escudero called on PAGCOR to provide transparent data on PIGO revenues and their impact, similar to scrutiny given to POGOs.
He noted that if the government could forgo POGO revenues, it should also consider doing the same for PIGOs if they prove detrimental.
The senator also raised concerns that former POGO operators might now be operating under PIGO licenses.
