Rep. Eric Go Yap of Benguet has joined the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) as its 103rd member, taking his oath administered by Speaker Martin Romualdez.
Yap, who previously represented the National Unity Party (NUP) and was associated with the Dutertes, is joined by Benguet Governor Melchor Diclas in this political shift. Speaker Romualdez highlighted that Yap’s move strengthens Lakas-CMD’s support for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s administration.
Romualdez expressed enthusiasm for the new members, emphasizing their alignment with the party’s goals for national progress.
Notably, Rep. Paolo Duterte, Yap’s friend, is the son of former President Rodrigo Duterte, a known critic of Marcos.
