ELECTION PERIOD BEGINS WITH GUN BAN, JOB FAIR EXEMPTION SOUGHT

The election period for the May 11 polls officially begins today, implementing a nationwide gun ban and restrictions on the reassignment, suspension, and security use of public officials, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Comelec Chairman George Garcia emphasized the need for compliance, warning violators of penalties, including imprisonment and disqualification from public office.

Police checkpoints, equipped with body cameras, will ensure law enforcement transparency while adhering to human rights protocols.

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna urged law enforcers to avoid favoritism and called for strict adherence to legal standards during searches and arrests.

Meanwhile, the Department of Migrant Workers is seeking Comelec approval to conduct job fairs during the election period, citing the urgency of filling thousands of vacancies in Taiwan’s tech industries.
