Vice President Sara Duterte confirmed that former president Rodrigo Duterte and her brothers, Davao City 1st District Rep. Paolo Duterte and Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte, will run for the Senate in 2025.
She mentioned that Sebastian, known as Baste, is also considering a presidential bid in 2028. ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro criticized the Duterte family’s political ambitions, calling it “bureaucrat capitalism” and likening it to the Marcos family’s history.
In contrast, former president Duterte’s chief legal counsel, Salvador Panelo, welcomed the news, predicting a significant impact on the political landscape.
The announcement concludes months of speculation regarding the Dutertes’ plans for the upcoming elections.
