The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Bicol (DSWD-5) has successfully concluded Project LAWA at BINHI with 12 partner local government units (LGUs) across the region.
Implemented in Catanduanes, Sorsogon, and Masbate provinces, the project aimed at enhancing water access and food security through various stages, including training sessions and cash-for-work programs.
According to DSWD-5’s Carl James Cabarles, 3,642 beneficiaries from these LGUs participated, receiving financial support for their efforts.
The initiatives included building reservoirs, rehabilitating water facilities, and promoting community-based gardening to mitigate water scarcity and food insecurity, particularly during disasters like La Niña.
