Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian expressed disappointment after detained Senator Jinggoy Estrada turned over a bare office to Senate President Pro Tempore Vicente “Tito” Sotto III.
Gatchalian said the office, reportedly stripped of floor tiles, lighting fixtures, glass panels, and other furnishings, would require renovations before Sotto could use it.
Estrada’s office maintained that the removal of the fixtures had been communicated to Sotto’s office and that many items were purchased using the senator’s personal funds.
Gatchalian said Sotto left his former office’s furniture behind and stressed that proper communication and mutual respect should have guided the turnover.
He also confirmed that the Office of the Ombudsman requested to inspect the office and instructed his staff to cooperate, while the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) separately inspected the room over concerns about its structural integrity.
