DOTr ENSURES SUFFICIENT PUVS DURING HOLIDAY SEASON DESPITE STRIKES

Despite ongoing transport strikes in various parts of the country, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) assures the public that there are enough public utility vehicles (PUVs) to accommodate Filipinos during the holiday season.

Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista stated that although there are strikes, many jeepney operators are still in operation, along with buses, Transport Network Vehicle Service (TNVS) vehicles, motorcycle taxis, and the MRT and LRT trains.

Bautista expressed confidence that there are sufficient vehicles operating in Metro Manila.

He noted that the protests against the government’s deadline for PUV consolidation on December 31 did not significantly disrupt public transportation, especially in Metro Manila, as only a few operators and drivers participated in the strike.

According to Bautista, the strikes had minimal impact, with only a small number of operators holding placards and no significant disruption to passengers.

The DOTr recently issued a memorandum circular revoking the permits of those who fail to comply with the franchise consolidation by January 1, rejecting appeals from transport groups against the consolidation deadline.
