The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has terminated its contract with the firms BF Corporation and Foresight Development and Surveying Company due to excessive delays in constructing the Unified Grand Central Station, a project designed to link Metro Manila’s rail lines.
The Common Station is intended to connect LRT-1, MRT-3, and MRT-7 to improve commuter convenience.
Originally proposed in 2009, the project has faced multiple setbacks, including disputes over location, stakeholder concerns, and pandemic-related disruptions.
Construction was supposed to start in 2017 with completion targeted for 2019, but has been repeatedly postponed, most recently to May 2023.
DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon said the agency is now ready to move forward and explore faster ways to complete the project under existing procurement laws.
