DOJ PURSUES LEGAL MEASURES AGAINST ONLINE BLACK MARKET SELLING BABIES

The Department of Justice (DoJ) has filed charges against Ma. Chariza Rivera Dizon and Arjay Escalona Malabanan for attempting to sell Dizon’s newborn baby online, marking a significant step against the black market for child trafficking on social media.

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla announced that qualified trafficking and child exploitation charges were brought against the two before a Manila regional trial court.

The case emerged from a Philippine National Police-Women and Children Protection Center (PNP-WCPC) sting operation, prompted by reports of illegal child adoptions on Facebook.

The operation led to the arrest of Dizon and Malabanan during a transaction involving the sale of the newborn for P90,000.

Social Welfare Secretary Rex Gatchalian emphasized the rampant and cruel nature of baby sales on social media, highlighting the ongoing efforts to combat this form of child exploitation and human trafficking.
