DIZON PLEDGES ₱1.5-B TO SOLVE PUP CLASSROOM SHORTAGE BY 2027

Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon pledged ₱1.5 billion in the 2027 budget to complete unfinished classrooms and administrative buildings across Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) campuses.

He committed to a campus job fair at PUP Sta. Mesa after meeting with PUP President Manuel Muhi, who cited chronic overcrowding and hybrid learning caused by incomplete facilities.

About 10 buildings remain unfinished due to years of funding delays, including a nine-storey academic building on the main campus that will house classrooms, laboratories, and offices.

Dizon said completing existing projects is a priority before starting new ones, ensuring that the 2027 budget addresses PUP’s infrastructure needs.

The nine-storey building alone is expected to provide 300 classrooms, allowing the university to resume full in-person classes and significantly expand learning capacity nationwide.
