DILG URGES LGUS TO ENFORCE FIRECRACKER REGULATIONS TO PREVENT INJURIES

Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla called on local government units (LGUs) to strictly enforce firecracker regulations to prevent injuries during the holiday season.

In a memorandum, he urged LGUs to issue ordinances discouraging or banning firecrackers, in line with Executive Order No. 28, and restrict their use to community fireworks displays with proper permits.

Remulla also instructed the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) to enforce safety zones and the Philippine National Police to confiscate illegal fireworks.

The Department of Health reported 101 fireworks-related injuries from Dec. 22 to Dec. 27, further stressing the need for regulation.

Additionally, Remulla encouraged LGUs to implement the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act to ensure cleanliness during the holidays.
